Asphalt Grinding and Milling
Probably every driver has experienced this at least once in their lives. They drive down the street and suddenly, the top layer is gone, giving you a very rough ride. Did you know that there is a name for that? It’s called asphalt milling or asphalt grinding.
If you have a parking or a road that is looking a little worse for wear, you’re going to want to know more about asphalt grinding and milling.
What is asphalt grinding and milling in Los Angeles?
Asphalt grinding and asphalt milling are basically the same thing. It’s used when you want to take off a layer of asphalt before resurfacing or overlaying the asphalt. That way, you can repair or replace the top layer of asphalt without having to demolish the entire road or parking lot and reinstall it. You can also recycle the asphalt pieces that are removed when you refinish your parking lot or road.
When should I use asphalt grinding or milling?
If your asphalt has ruts, potholes, or damage caused by accidents or fires, asphalt milling can restore the uneven and bumpy pavement.
Milling is mainly used to fix cracks, asphalt that is disintegrating or asphalt bleeding. Asphalt bleeding happens when an oil-based asphalt binder fills the aggregate voids. You can tell this is happening when an oily film appears on the asphalt surface. Asphalt grinding can remove the layer of asphalt that is prone to bleeding.
